Compass Privacy Policy

# Compass — Privacy Policy

**Last updated: October 13, 2026**

This Privacy Policy explains how Compass (the "App"), a personal contact-relationship-management application developed and operated by Matthew Griffith ("I", "me", "the Developer"), handles information. The App is a private, single-user tool built for my own use; it is not offered to the public.

## 1. Summary

- Compass runs on my own computer and keeps its data in a local database there.
- I do not operate any server that collects, receives or stores data from the App.
- Information leaves my computer only when I use an optional integration (Section 3), and only to that service.
- I do not sell or share data, show ads, or use data to train AI or machine-learning models.

## 2. Information the App stores

On my own computer, the App stores the records I enter: contacts, notes, tasks, events, appointments, journal entries, trips and similar details, along with settings. It also stores the credentials and API keys I choose to enter for integrations, and, if I connect Google Calendar, a Google refresh token. All of this is held in the App's local database. None of it is uploaded to the Developer.

## 3. Integrations and what they receive

Each integration is optional and works only after I set it up.

| Service | What is sent | Why |
|---|---|---|
| **Google Calendar** | The title, date/time, description and location of an Event or Appointment I choose to push, and requests to list my calendars. Private notes are not sent. | To add my Events and Appointments to my own Google Calendar |
| **Twilio** | The text of reminder messages and my phone number | To send and schedule reminder texts to myself |
| **Email (SMTP server I configure)** | Reminder email content | To email reminders to myself |
| **Google Maps** | Addresses or place names I look up | To show map and place information |
| **FlightAware** | Flight numbers I look up | To show flight information |

These services have their own privacy policies, which govern how they handle the information they receive.

## 4. Google user data

The App's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the [Google API Services User Data Policy](https://developers.google.com/terms/api-services-user-data-policy), including the Limited Use requirements.

- **Access requested:** permission to create, edit and delete calendar events, and to read the list of calendars so I can choose where events go. The App does not read the contents of my existing calendar events.
- **Use:** Google data is used only to provide the calendar feature described above.
- **Storage:** the Google sign-in token is stored only in the local database on my computer, and is sent only to Google.
- **No sharing:** Google data is not sold, transferred to others, used for advertising, or used to train generalised AI or machine-learning models. No human reads it other than me, on my own computer.
- **Revoking access:** I can disconnect Google Calendar in the App's settings, which revokes access, or remove the App at any time from my Google Account's security settings.

## 5. Security

Data is stored locally on my computer and is protected by that computer's own security, such as its login password and disk encryption. Credentials are stored in the local database and are not transmitted anywhere except to the service they belong to, over encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) connections. No system can be guaranteed completely secure.

## 6. Retention and deletion

Data stays on my computer until I delete it. Deleting a record in the App removes it from the visible App; deleting the App's local database removes everything it holds. Items already pushed to Google Calendar remain there until removed through the App or in Google Calendar. Messages already sent through Twilio or email remain in those services' records according to their policies.

## 7. Children

The App is not directed to children and is not used by anyone other than the Developer.

## 8. Changes

I may update this policy as the App changes. The "Last updated" date above shows the latest revision.
