Compass Terms of Service

# Compass — Terms of Service

**Last updated: October 13, 2026**

These Terms of Service ("Terms") apply to Compass (the "App"), a personal contact-relationship-management application developed and operated by Matthew Griffith ("I", "me", "the Developer").

## 1. Who the App is for

Compass is a private, single-user application built for my own personal use. It is not offered to the public, is not sold, and is not available for anyone else to sign up for. The only person authorised to use the App is the Developer. Any Google account connected to the App is the Developer's own.

## 2. What the App does

Compass runs as a desktop application on my own computer. It stores contacts, tasks, events, appointments, notes and related records in a local database on that computer. At my direction, it can connect to third-party services:

- **Google Calendar** — to create, update and delete calendar entries for Events and Appointments I choose to push. The App requests only the permissions needed for this: creating and editing events, and reading the list of my calendars so I can choose which one to use. It does not read the contents of my existing calendar events, and it does not send invitations to other people.
- **Twilio** — to send and schedule reminder text messages to my own phone number.
- **Email (SMTP)** — to send reminder emails to myself.
- **Google Maps and FlightAware** — to look up place and flight information.

Each integration is optional and is used only after I have configured it.

## 3. Google user data

The App's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the [Google API Services User Data Policy](https://developers.google.com/terms/api-services-user-data-policy), including the Limited Use requirements.

- Google data is used only to provide the calendar features described above.
- The Google sign-in token is stored only in the local database on my own computer. It is never sent to any server operated by me or anyone else, other than Google itself.
- Google data is not sold, shared with third parties, used for advertising, or used to train any AI or machine-learning model.
- I can disconnect Google Calendar at any time from the App's settings, which revokes the App's access, or from my Google Account's security settings.

## 4. Data and privacy

The App is local-first. Data is stored on my own computer and is not uploaded to any server run by the Developer. Data leaves my computer only when I use an integration in Section 2, and then only to the corresponding service, so that the feature can work. Credentials and API keys I enter are stored in the local database on my computer.

## 5. Acceptable use

The App may be used only for lawful personal purposes. It must not be used to send unsolicited messages to others, to infringe anyone's rights, or to violate the terms of Google, Twilio or any other connected service.

## 6. Third-party services

Connected services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies, including the [Google Terms of Service](https://policies.google.com/terms) and the [Twilio Terms of Service](https://www.twilio.com/legal/tos). I am responsible for complying with them and for any charges those services make (for example, Twilio message fees). I do not control those services and am not responsible for their availability or behaviour.

## 7. No warranty

The App is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, reliability, or uninterrupted operation. Reminders, calendar entries and scheduled messages may be delayed, missed or incorrect, and should not be relied upon for anything critical.

## 8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Developer is not liable for any loss or damage arising from the use of, or inability to use, the App, including lost data, missed reminders or messages, or charges from third-party services. I am responsible for keeping my own backups.

## 9. Changes and termination

I may change the App or these Terms at any time, and may stop using or discontinue the App at any time. The "Last updated" date above shows when these Terms were last revised.
